Watch: 'Sesame Street' Debuts First Family With Two Dads

by Ryan Britt

The neighborhood of Sesame Street just got a lot little more inclusive. After years of debate about whether or not Bert and Ernie are a couple, the makers of Sesame Street have finally introduced a non-muppet family that has two dads. In a new episode called “Family Day,” two dads named Dave (Chris Costa) and Frank (Alex Weisman) who are raising a daughter named Mia (Olivia Perez).

The episode debuted on June 17 and is now streaming online for free. You can watch the entire episode (not just clips!) above.

In a touching Instagram post, actor Chris Costa wrote: “I hope Dave, Frank, and Mia warm your hearts. And remember, it’s love that brings families together. Happy #Pride everyone!!!”

This doesn’t appear to be a one-off appearance for the new family either. Dave, Frank, and Mia are joining the regular cast of characters on Sesame Street. This is a great move for the show, since sometimes when it comes to inclusive segments, certain new characters are relegated to only existing online. Thankfully, that’s not the case with the newest Sesame family.

You can watch new episodes of Sesame Street on HBO Max.
