Phew! The New 'Rugrats' Trailer Looks Great and '90s Kids Will Not Be Mad
Sometimes a baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do! So sayeth Tommy Pickles, who returns to action in the upcoming Paramount+ reboot of Rugrats. All of the kids – Tommy, along with Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Susie, and that ever-pesky Angelica — and much of the original voice cast are back for the new show, which will begin streaming on May 27. Fatherly is here with a First Look at the new trailer and photos just released by Paramount+.
The first fresh episode, “Second Time Around,” will run an hour, and it follows Tommy as he leads the babies on a daring adventure to help Chuckie after his big attempt to be brave goes horribly wrong. And hold onto your bottles…. dinosaurs are involved. “Second Time Around” will kick off Rugrats’ first set of episodes, with the streamer’s plans for the rollout of additional episodes to be revealed in the near future. Among the stars of the original, Emmy Award-winning animated series reprising their familiar role are E.G. Daily as Tommy Pickles, Nancy Cartwright as Chuckie Finster, Cheryl Chase as Angelica Pickles, Cree Summer as Susie Carmichael, and Kath Soucie as both Phil and Lil DeVille. Newcomers include Ashley Rae Spillers and Tommy Dewey as Tommy’s parents, Didi and Stu Pickles; Tony Hale as Chuckie’s dad, Chas Finster; Natalie Morales as Phil and Lil’s mom, Betty DeVille; Anna Chlumsky and Timothy Simons as Angelica’s parents, Charlotte and Drew Pickles; Nicole Byer and Omar Miller as Susie’s parents, Lucy and Randy Carmichael; and the great Michael McKean as Grandpa Lou Pickles. The original Rugrats debuted in 1991 and ran for nine seasons over the course of 13 years. Will the updated (and we mean updated; just check out the music and animation in the trailer) version enjoy similar success? As Angelica noted way back in season one of the old show: “If you have to ask, you’ll never know!”
Rugrats will stream on Paramount+ on May 27.
