First 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Trailer Will Make Everyone a Star Wars Fan Again

by Ryan Britt

No matter what you think about The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, or The Book of Boba Fett, everyone who has ever had any warm feelings about any Star Wars thing ever will suddenly feel the Force very strongly, once again. The first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi has dropped and it will easily melt the carbonite off even the most cynical fan.

In this trailer, we get… .a little kid version of Luke Skywalker right away, evil Inquisitors hunting for Obi-Wan Kenobi, red lightsabers getting busted out suddenly, that stirring John Williams “Duel of the Fates” music that everyone loved in 1999, and of course, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi looking meditative, solemn, worried, and cool as hell.

The trailer stops short of showing us Darth Vader (reminder: Hayden Christensen is back for this series) and we also don’t see Obi-Wan ignite that blue lightsaber of his. But, they have to save something for the show, right?

Sure, Obi-Wan Kenobi might be retro fan-service, squarely aimed at making as many people happy as possible. It might not be a series that takes a lot of narrative risks. (We know what happens to Old Ben, after all.) It may not even reveal anything all that new about the basic Star Wars story. And yet, everything about this trailer feels right, and it’s good to see Ewan McGregor back in a galaxy far, far away. Hello there, indeed.

Obi-Wan Kenobi hits Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
