Song by Katy Perry and Jimmy Kimmel Worse Than Baby Shark

by Devan McGuinness

Katy Perry and Jimmy Kimmel are tired of Baby Shark. The song has been in our heads for years and while our kids are still obsessed, these two want to give us another earworm – and they have.

On the April 11 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, where Katy was a guest, the two declared their desire to have a new song replace the one about shark families. And they took the task upon themselves. They wrote a new song, keeping in mind what kids are obsessed with at the toddler-and-up age: garbage trucks, planes, dinosaurs, and puppies.

From there, they got to work and wrote a song that pulls some of the repetition magic that’s done so well in other kid songs. “Picky picky, icky icky,” Katy says, wondering if she landed the perfect hook for the song.

“It sounds like something Snoop might rap,” Jimmy replies. Then they landed on “yum yum.”

“Yeah, I mean it causes all the hair on my body to stand up when I say the word ‘yum yum,’” Jimmy says, “but I think that’s good because the parents have to hate the song.”

Going back and forth a little, the two found the perfect topic that all kids seem to find entertaining at some point. Poop and farts. They let the magic flow through them and “Yum Yum Nom Nom Toot Toot Poop,” was born.

Debuting the song also came with a colorful music video that’s very Baby Shark-like, and if this takes off we’re not sure how OK we will be with it. Katy and Jimmy did a great job producing another annoying song that’s inevitably going to get stuck in our heads and our kids are going to love it.

“Clap your hands and stomp your feet/Give me something good to eat,” Katy sings, before Jimmy joins her to sing the chorus, “Yum yum, nom nom/Toot toot, poop!”
