Jason Momoa Narrates 'Waterman'— The Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Documentary We Need

by Ryan Britt

Duke Paoa Kahanamoku didn’t just change swimming and surfing, he changed the world. From 1912 to 1924, Kahanamoku won five different Olympic medals. As a native of Hawaii, this is significant because he did all of this well before Hawaii became a part of the United States. His swimming techniques are still emulated by Olympic swimmers to this day, including Michael Phelps. Kahanamoku broke racial barriers in a time before it was common for people of color to become sports heroes.

Now, a new documentary will illuminate the amazing life of the Duke. Directed by Isaac Halasima, a new film is called The Waterman will chronicle the entire life of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. Through original interviews, archival footage and dramatic reenactments from actors, this man’s amazing journey will be brought to life, all narrated by fellow Hawaiian, Jason Momoa.

The Waterman is out of theaters on April 1, 2022. We’ll update this as soon as we hear of a streaming date.
