'Book of Boba Fett' Trailer Is Different From 'The Mandalorian' For 1 Big Reason

by Ryan Britt

Welcome to the underworld! The next Star Wars TV series — The Book of Boba Fett — hits Disney+ on December 29. But now, we’ve got our first trailer, and it looks like this Mandalorian spin-off is going to be very different from the bounty hunter series that came before.

With Mando, the father-child bond between Din Djarin and Grogu defined the first two seasons of the show. But Book of Boba Fett isn’t going to be like that. Like, at all. Boba may have a wonderful dad bod, but this series is clearly not trying to be cute or cuddly.

Instead, based on the trailer, it seems like The Book of Boba Fett is going to be all about Boba’s attempts to reform the criminal underworld formally run by Jabba the Hutt. As Boba makes clear in the trailer, his goal is to “rule with respect.” So, basically, The Book of Boba Fett is going to be a Star Wars mafia show but centered on a criminal with a heart of gold. Will it work out? That’s a legit question. We have no idea if Boba Fett survived into the era of the sequel films, so the stakes could be pretty high in this show. In other words, Boba Fett could totally die in this series!

The trailer has a refreshing hard edge and the return of Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand makes the series look like it will mostly be about this specific duo of badasses versus pretty much every other Star Wars crook, ever. We’re also seeing a lot more of Temuera Morrison’s face in this trailer, meaning that just because he’s got the helmet, doesn’t mean he’s going to wear it all the time.

So, actually, that’s two ways The Book of Boba Fett won’t be like Mandalorian — there won’t be any cute and cuddly Star Wars babies AND we’ll be seeing the face of the leading character all the time!

The Book of Boba Fett hits Disney+ on December 29, 2021.
