Are you looking for perhaps the easiest, and quickest, way to teach your kid how to tie their shoes? Well, one guy on TikTok has answers.

Teaching kids how to tie their shoes can sometimes be a frustrating and arduous process. And because most parents don’t want to be a Bean Dad and gaslight their children into learning how to do it completely on their own, the process requires lots of personal engagement. Typically speaking, parents actually want to offer helpful guidance on how to make the transition from velcro sneaker to their kid’s Converse as easy as possible.

So, that might mean that parents could also use a refresher on how to improve their shoe tying practice. Let’s face it, you’ve probably been using the same method for decades and you could tie your laces in your sleep. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the method that you’re currently using is the most effective for your kids. That’s where TikTok comes in.

The platform’s @bugzymoran has gone viral for a genius shoe-tying hack that could potentially be a game-changer. If your little one isn’t having the best time with more tried-and-true methods like the Bunny Ears or the Push and Tie method, this could be a good one to have in your arsenal.

In the video, @bugzymoran begins the short video with an intriguing claim: “Today I’m going to show you how to tie your shoes in less than a second,” followed by another shot of the TikToker tying his shoes just as lightning fast as he promised. Luckily, he explains his process fairly well so that we can steal it and shave a few seconds off of getting ready in the morning and help our kids do the same.

After undoing the laces and making the initial knot, @bugzymoran instructs, “Next what you’re going to do, pay attention, is, with two hands you’re going to grab the strings like so with your last three fingers. With your right hand, you’re going to go index finger first, around, and then to the thumb. With your left hand, you’re going to go thumb, around, to the index finger.” @bugzymoran explains further, “With your right hand, use your thumb, grab the other top string. With your left hand, use that other index finger, grab this top string. You’ll be able to feel them underneath your fingers. And what you’re going to do is just pull like so. So when you’re done and getting better at it, you’ll be the first motherf*cker with your shoes tied, that’s for sure.”

The brilliant hack has gone viral with upwards of 460,000 shares on the video. One TikTok user commented, “Ok where was this when I was a kid.” And another shared that this technique was their favorite, writing, “I’ve been doing this since 6th grade. Everyone knew I was the fastest shoe tier in the west.” Someone did cast some doubt on the method, however, writing, “I have never once thought, ‘you know, I spend too much time tying my shoes. I need a faster method.’ Not once.” But hey, if it helps your kid (or you) at all, this method could be worth trying — and could make them the coolest kid in school.
