Mandalorian season 2 trailer is chocked full of classic Star Wars nostalgia

by Ryan Britt

Everyone’s favorite bounty hunting space dad is back! The season 2 trailer of The Mandalorian features Din Djarin and Baby Yoda (aka “The Child”) in search of…the Jedi. This trailer is the way…to classic, OG Star Wars goodness.

If you were worried that the new season of The Mandalorian (on Disney+) would back-down from the promise that Mando would have to figure out where Baby Yoda came from, and who he really belongs with, the new trailer for season 2 will make you way less worried. The opening narration is all about how Mando has to find the Jedi, and reunite Baby Yoda with them. Along the way, it looks like he’ll encounter his old buddies Cara Dune and Greef Carga, but also tangle with the Empire, and what seems like the New Republic.

Yep. Those X-wings in the trailer aren’t repping for the Rebel Alliance, and that’s because, at this point in the Star Wars timeline, the Rebel Alliance has become the New Republic; the legitimate democratic government that controls most of the galaxy. But what is Mando doing with two X-wings flanking him? Are they there to help? Or are they trying to snag Baby Yoda, too?

This trailer makes The Mandalorian season 2 look a lot like The Mandalorian season 1, only more confident, more badass and with a lot more classic Star Wars stuff jammed in. Remember those green pig guards (the Gamorreans) who guarded Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi? Well, here they are fighting each other with axes in some kind of boxing ring on a dirty planet. Yeah. This show rocks.

The Mandalorian season 2 hits Disney+ on October 30, 2020.
