There are a lot of questions that come with being a new dad, from how to change a diaper to how to get your baby to sleep. But whether or not you should get up to feed your newborn is not one of them. One dad learned that the hard way when he posed the question to Reddit — and got absolutely destroyed.

“Am I the asshole for not wanting to get up at night to help with our twins?” user u/phuckme2tears asked, explaining that while he works full-time, his wife does not. “I help whenever I’m not working but have told my wife she has to cover the overnights as I need sleep for work.”

He went on to say that his wife can nap during the day as they have a nanny who helps out four days a week to give her a break. “I’m not trying to get out of doing my part,” he stressed.

However, people of Reddit not only disagreed with the dad, they outright roasted him. “If you think carrying two babies inside your body for 9 months, giving birth and taking care of them is not comparable to your job, then you are wrong,” one person fired back, while another added, “Step up and do your damn part.”

One person commented, “Parenting is a team effort, you don’t have to get up with them every time but it shouldn’t just be her job to be the parent 24/7 while you’re only the parent for a few hours in the morning and a few hours after you get home.”

Others pointed out that it had only been three weeks since his wife had given birth to twins. “The postpartum period is incredibly difficult. Hormones are all over the place, sleep deprivation is insane, she’s swollen and bleeding and cramping,” one person explained.

And while he received a lot of angry responses, there were also a handful of people that sided with the original poster, agreeing that he deserves to sleep and rest as much as his wife does.
