There are so many new parenting stresses we’re facing these past two weeks. Many of us are quarantined at home with our kids and trying everything to keep the family healthy. We’re now charged with homeschooling and trying to work at the same time. And the two most significant recommendations on how to keep from getting the coronavirus is to self-isolate and wash your hands. Trying to get the kids to clean without a fight is an honest struggle. But, when everything else fails, at least we have this new baby shark hand-washing song.

Pretty much every parent knows about the Baby Shark song. Probably have it playing in the background of your mind right now because it’s arguably the biggest earworm song ever – and Pinkfong, the creators of the song and video, is back with a new one that’s going to be helpful. The music and pattern of this new song are the same, but the lyrics have been changed to encourage kids to wash their hands. And it’s honestly perfect.

The new song and video provide step-by-step instructions on how to effectively wash your hands to help prevent the spread of the virus. “Grab some soap, doo doo doo doo doo” and “rub your hands, doo doo doo doo doo” and the video even shows some humans washing their hands, along with the shark family doing their part, too. The song also goes into other measures kids can do to keep safe, including the need to cough into your elbow and to cover your sneeze.

It seems silly to have a new Baby Shark song because so many of us parents are well finished with this tune, but at a time when we should all be focused on making sure people understand the importance of distancing and washing hands, this new one is effective. Kids love the repetition of this song; that’s why the original has been so crazy popular.

And also, why this one might be the key to getting our kids to wash their hands finally.
