You may have noticed your kid’s newfound passion for dumping things out – that’s because they only recently developed the strength to rotate their forearm (and it is awesome!). This is a period of accelerating motor skill development, and you can encourage it with certain kinds of play. Head to the kitchen, because reaching and pulling things from cabinets is a great way to build arm, shoulder and core muscles. Stock up on board books, because turning the pages is great for their fine motor skills in their hands. Brace yourself – now that they can grasp things, it’s about to get very messy.
