Vin Diesel Says Fatherhood in 'F9' Is a "Mirror-Like Experience"

by Harlan Sharpe

Everyone knows that the Fast and Furious franchise is all about “family,” but what Vin Diesel wants you to know is that at this point, F9 really, really reflects his own feelings about fatherhood in a very big way.

Ahead of the release of F9: The Fast Saga (Director’s Cut) on digital September 9, and on 4k/Blu-ray/DVD on September 21, Fatherly is thrilled to present this preview from some of the film’s special features. In the clip above, Vin Diesel briefly talks about how the themes of Dom and his son Brian, touch on his own experiences.

“When I watch the movie, I melt when I see Baby Brian and Dom,” Diesel says. “It’s kind of a surreal experience. It’s probably the most mirror-like experience, I’ve had, watching the film.” Diesel points out that the reason why he thinks this newest F9 film might connect with parents is because: “When we have children the stakes are higher. We have to care about the planet…and humanity.”

Of course, Diesel is correct. And, just like with The Fate of the Furious, the latest film, F9 probably connected with parents more than previous iterations specifically because of the notion that Dom is protecting his son. Basically, Vin Diesel is right, and we love his movies even more than before.

F9 is on digital on September 9. Read our interview with Ludacris — all about working with Diesel and the future of the Fast family — right here.
