With apologies to Shia LaBoeuf, the least entertaining part of the Transformers saga has always been the humans. We’re all here for the giant, shape-shifting robots, and if you’re not a giant, shape-shifting robot GTFO. So we’re pretty optimistic about Transformers: War for Cybertron, an upcoming Netflix series that’s all robots, no people. The first trailer for the show just dropped, and it’s revealing a lot about what to expect.

The new series is set to be a trilogy, so the first trailer is for the first installment, Siege. It’s set on Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers, and focuses on what looks like a brutal civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons led by Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively.

Their conflict centers on the Allspark, the source of all life and power on Cybertron, which can also be used to “reformat” the machines, which doesn’t sound great. It’s a pretty standard plotline for a franchise like this, akin to the race to collect the Infinity Stones or the schematics for the Death Star stored in R2-D2.

The trailer shows a ton of different scenes, from aerial battles to car chases to hand-to-hand combat. It also looks pretty bleak, surprisingly so for a show ostensibly aimed at kids.

Cybertron is billed as an anime series, but its use of three-dimensional CGI makes it more of a blended style that is both distinct from and reminiscent of anime styles.

Transformers: War for Cybertron Siege does not have an announced release date, but it’s slated to hit Netflix this year.
