Birthdays don’t always turn out how you expect. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, sometimes your friends bail, and sometimes, your birthday cake says “loser” instead of your name. At least, such was the case for two-year-old Liz. A now-viral Facebook post from 27-year-old mom Melin Jones shows an image of her daughter hilariously pouting next to her birthday cake, which was mistakenly inscribed with the message, “happy birthday loser.”
In the caption, Jones explains that her daughter Liz’s nickname is “Lizard”, and when she asked the bakery to write “happy birthday Lizard”, they misheard “loser”. Jones didn’t think to glance at the cake when she picked it up, and didn’t notice the error until she got home. “As I’m unloading the car I look quickly at it and notice the lady didn’t hear ‘Lizard’, she heard loser,” the mom wrote on Facebook. “So here’s my baby & her loser cake 😭😭🤣🤣🤣 It’s funny now but I was maddddd. She did get a new cake!”
Jones later clarified that Liz obviously can’t read and wouldn’t have understood if her parents had told her what it said, but clearly she knew something was up. The photo has been shared nearly 3,000 times and people are obsessed with the little girl’s instantly-iconic expression. “Her face says it all!” one Facebook user wrote. “Why isn’t this a meme?” said another. (Honestly, it probably will be soon.) One company even commemorated the hilarious incident with an enamel pin of the birthday cake. Incredible.
