Move over, Sophia and Jackson — the top two baby names from 2018 have been replaced by Milo and Posie, according to a new survey. Nameberry, the popular baby name generator, recently revealed its list of the most popular baby names of 2019 so far.
To compile the rankings, Nameberry looked at the number of page views each name received on its site. “We’re measuring which names attract the most interest from parents in real time versus how many babies actually receive these names,” Nameberry co-founder and CEO Pamela Redmond told HuffPost. “Given the 18-month time lag on name statistics from the Social Security Administration, this is the most accurate way for expectant parents to gauge which names are most likely to be popular in 2019.”
For girls, the number one name is Posie, which can also be spelled Posey or Posy and encompasses two trends (nature names and nickname names). It’s followed by Isla, Olivia, Aurora, and Maeve.
And for boys, Milo has been the most popular name this year. The German name is likely popular because of Milo Ventimiglia, the star of the hit TV show This Is Us. Rounding out the top five male monikers are Jasper, Atticus, Theodore, and Asher.
Nameberry also broke down its rankings by different categories. For instance, the names with the most staying power are Olivia and Jack (Olivia has been in the top 10 since 2001). And as for names that have come from other countries, Maeve and Finn are both popular picks from Ireland, while Amara, an Indian-African moniker, is also on the rise.
