How Fatherhood Rewrote BOTZY’s Story And His Music In New Single “Look At You (Affirmations)”
From kitchen table freestyles to affirmations, BOTZY's new era is rooted in truth, fatherhood, and healing.

BOTZY has never been one to shy away from raw honesty; his new single, “Look At You (Affirmations),” from his forthcoming album Sorry, Where Was I? dives deeper than ever. Rooted in the joy and vulnerability of parenthood, the single was built on a powerful idea that children should grow up hearing and believing wholeheartedly in messages of love, strength, and belonging.
“You’re brave, look at you. / You’re resilient, look at you. / You’re loved… amazing… powerful… beautiful.”
These lyrics are a father’s legacy, and parenthood for BOTZY isn’t background noise, it is the heartbeat of everything he’s creating now.
A Musical Mirror For The Next Generation
“I wanted this to be something my kids and other kids could grow up hearing, internalizing, and carrying with them,” BOTZY explains. “It’s a musical mirror. I didn’t have that kind of voice in my ear growing up. I want to be that voice for them.”
That perspective doesn’t come from nowhere. Raised without a steady father figure and spending parts of his childhood in group homes and treatment centers, BOTZY knows firsthand what it means to grow up unseen. Now, as a father of two and a longtime volunteer, he has experienced the other side and knows the power of presence, mentorship, and simply showing up.
“Kids don’t just learn from what we say, they learn from what we live,” he says. “This song is as much for me as it is for them. It reminds me to keep becoming the kind of man I want them to see.”
Beats, Breakthroughs, And A Kitchen Table Freestyle
The inspiration behind “Look At You (Affirmations)” didn’t come from a studio session or a writing retreat. It actually came from a kitchen table. BOTZY remembers where he tapped out a beat with his daughter, and she started rapping along.
“She was locked in, confident, fearless. I just sat there in awe. It hit me how much they absorb from us, the good, the bad, all of it. That moment became a seed for this song.”
Now, whenever they get in the car, his daughter asks politely for a “daddy song.” It’s the kind of real life feedback no streaming numbers can touch.
Sorry, Where Was I?: A Journey Of Redemption
“Look At You (Affirmations)” and a plethora of new tracks from BOTZY are to be featured on Sorry, Where Was I? It figures to be a project expanding on themes of redemption, growth, and what it means to rebuild yourself through love and intention.
While BOTZY is no stranger to creative evolution from fronting bands to organizing events and sharing stages, this album marks a new era as he calls it. One where storytelling is both deeply personal and universally relatable.
“I’ve had to step away from things that were once working to find something more honest,” he says. “This project is about that pause. That reflection. That moment where you look around and ask yourself, ‘Where was I… and where am I going now?’”
Real Life Music
In an industry oftentimes fueled by image and hype, BOTZY’s music offers something quieter and more powerful: truth. Whether it’s a verse, photograph, or a “daddy song” in the car, everything BOTZY creates is rooted in the experience of being human and being a father.
As he puts it: “This isn’t just about music. It’s about the impact we leave behind and the hope we pass forward.”
