Your Parenting Type Is...

The Teacher

At some point in your upbringing you had an experience where a teacher or neighbor or friend shared their knowledge and sent you down a better path. That experience shaped you as a person and will continue to shape you as a parent.

Because you listen and because you care about communication, you have a wealth of knowledge and a surfeit of empathy, dual currencies you value. You also have the gift of patience. When your baby picks up a new construction toy or, later, takes on a school project, you will first let them try to figure it out themselves before jumping in to show them how to do it perfectly. You see beauty in imperfection. After all, you can’t learn what you already know.

This is not to say you are completely hands-off. You will balance letting your kid have space, breathing room, and the ability to make mistakes without fear or shame, with a constant sense of vigilance to protect them from the grown-up dangers that you feel they shouldn’t have to face yet.

What kind of items are on your registry? They are products that acknowledge a tradition of trial and error and are a logical fit for your life. For the child, they are items that have, always, your next lesson in mind — whether a brilliant puzzle or a book with years of layers. These are, after all, gifts that will help mold your child’s life.

Baby Einstein 5-in-1 World of Discovery Learning Gym

Proving the world is your child’s oyster, the Baby Einstein 5-in-1 World of Discovery Learning Gym introduces the wonders of other cultures. With over 20 minutes of global-themed music, it starts your child early in world exploration, while the five settings (which mirror your child’s first developmental stages) provide continued challenges and growth potential. This plush pad also includes a puppet, prop pillow, and take-along toys for when you travel. It even has fold-up sides to create an impromptu ball pit, which also develops your child’s motor skills.

$35

Baby Einstein Glow & Discover Light Bar

Call it sneaky, but your kid will have a ton of fun with the Baby Einstein Glow & Discover Light Bar while learning foundational principles that will help them down the road. The bar’s easy-depress buttons light up with a touch and a central rattle drum will enthrall your child. Animal sounds, colors, and xylophone sounds can be selected — and you can even toggle between French, Spanish, and English options for a boost toward language learning.

$18

Boon Tubes Bath Toy

Bathtime is more fun — and a chance for your kid to bring play to another environment — with the Boon Tubes Bath Toy. Stick their suction-cup ends to your wall to blast water through. You can even combine them to create mazelike creations that are sure to please. While enjoyable, the tubes also provide a foundational understanding of basic engineering principles.

$10

Fat Brain Toys SpinAgain

Stack, twirl, and entertain with the Fat Brain Toys SpinAgain. Made from BPA-free plastic, this stacking toy threads vibrant disks around a central core, corkscrewing them down in a neon whirl. While entertaining on its own, it helps children differentiate size, color, and pattern, all while building their creative problem-solving skills. Thinking outside the box starts from birth, and this is a great way to begin early.

$30

Skip Hop Wipe Clean Changing Pad

Diapering isn’t the most entertaining for you or your child, but the Skip Hop Wipe Clean Changing Pad can help. Its mobile-like arm attachment can distract your infant from the unpleasantness, while it allows you a few wriggle-free moments to take care of business. When the mobile’s not in use or for added maneuverability, just flip it down and out of the way. A security strap further provides reassurance that your kiddo doesn’t depart the pad too early. Its nonporous material cleans easily use after use.

$71

Pampers Swaddlers Disposable Diapers Enormous Pack

Pampers has been diapering the nation’s infants since 1961, and the brand has clearly learned a lot while doing it. Supersoft and supplying 12 hours of coverage for those marathon road trips to see the grandparents, these diapers will keep your child comfortable. Specially designed air channels help keep skin healthy and rash-free. New parents will appreciate the wetness indicator, which gives them the heads-up when it’s time to visit the changing pad. There’s even a special notch, which protects your newborn’s tummy and umbilical cord.

$40

Seventh Generation Free & Clear Baby Wipes

Superthick and ultrasoft, the Seventh Generation Free & Clear Baby Wipes are a simple way to clean your son or daughter before a fresh diaper. Made from a plant-based fiber, the unscented wipes contain zero fragrance, alcohol, parabens, or phenoxyethanol, making them as safe on the face as they are on the bottom. Angelcare AC237 Baby Breathing Monitor with Video

A security system for your child, the three-piece Angel Care Breathing Movement and Video Baby Monitor provides a clear color image of them while reading the ambient room temperature. With its under-the-mattress wireless sensor in place, you’ll also receive updates on the slight movements your child makes continuously. If no breathing movement is detected, an alarm sounds after 20 seconds. All of this data is visible and viewable on an included LCD unit, which can be taken with you throughout the home.

HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper

The HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper is a bassinet with easy-open sidewalls. It rotates 360 degrees and has adjustable height, allowing placement — and retrieval — of a crying baby even while you’re in bed. We especially liked the “soothing center,” which provides a nightlight, vibrations, and a back-to-bed reminder while playing music or relaxing white noise, creating an environment in which the baby can get a more thorough night of sleep.

$280

Maxi-Cosi Adorra Modular Stroller

The Maxi-Cosi Adorra Modular Stroller rides as smooth as it looks, but its versatility is what really sold us. Its carriage mode allows full reclining for infants still developing neck muscles. Later, when strength isn’t an issue, both front- and rear-facing upright positions are available; reclining is available both ways as well. An adjustable handle ensures that you’re as comfortable as your child. When accidents happen, a reversible seat pad can be flipped to reveal a clean surface. When you return home, pop it in the wash and tumble-dry it without fear.

$300

Disney Light ’N Comfy Luxe Infant Car Seat

Prepare your child early for that first trip to “The Happiest Place on Earth” with a mouse-themed Disney Light ’N Comfy Luxe Infant Car Seat. The seat itself is super lightweight, making it easy to haul around an amusement park, while its five-point harness with up-front adjustment keeps baby super secure en route. Fisher-Price Bouncer

Kids love jiggling around in the Fisher-Price Bouncer. Responding to your son or daughter’s natural movements, it offers additional enjoyment thanks to a removable toy bar replete with monkey, lion, and zebra spinners. The cushy seat pad, when soiled, comes out like new after a quick machine-wash. The adjustable three-point restraint ensures your child is perfectly secured, while the nonskid fit prevents them from shuffling away. When you need baby to nap, flick a switch to turn on calming vibrations to send the kiddo off to dreamland.

$20

Blooming Bath Lotus

Instead of a cold, hard baby tub, the plush Blooming Bath Lotus offers a comfy alternative for your kiddo. The four soft petals cradle your son or daughter while the nonskid dots on their underside prevent the tub from moving, wet or dry. Just insert it in a deep sink or regular tub to create a gentle surface on which to bathe your child. Once you’re finished, wring excess water from the petals and hang the Lotus by its loop to dry. When it’s time for a refresh, throw the unit in the wash and tumble-dry to get it as good as new.

$40

Johnson’s Soothing Vapor Bath

Johnson’s Soothing Vapor Bath is the perfect way to make bathtime the comforting pre-bedtime ritual you want it to be. Using calming aromas, it helps ease fussy and irritable kiddos, all while remaining committed to the company’s “No More Tears” tradition of soaps as gentle as bathwater itself. Mild on your child’s skin, it nevertheless cleanses, leaving them softer, smoother, and more relaxed than when they went into the water.

$5

Fisher-Price SpaceSaver High Chair

For the space-challenged or the space-conscious, the Fisher-Price SpaceSaver High Chair provides many of the benefits of a full-sized piece in half the size. With two height settings and three reclining positions, it’s incredibly versatile despite a base height of less than two feet. A dishwasher-safe tray and machine-washable seat make cleanup a cinch. Designed to be mounted on and secured to your regular chairs, it’s outfitted with multiple security straps to prevent accidents. Accommodating children up to 50 pounds, it’s a seat that your child will have plenty of meals in.

Hey, you’ve got a lot on your mind these days.

Swaddles are great to help young children sleep better, which, by extension, lets you sleep better. But the Nested Bean Zen Swaddle Classic has a couple of tricks up its sleeve.
