Watch: This Paddington Bear Advertisement Is NSFW (Well, Sort of)

Wait, did that dude just curse out a stuffed bear?

M&S

The beloved Paddington Bear is the face of a supermarket chain’s Christmas campaign in Britain. But the advertisement is accidentally drawing some not so happy remarks because it definitely sounds like someone drops the F-bomb during the segment.

The advertisement, spearheaded by M&S, is typically very Christmassy and ultimately very heartwarming. Paddington bear, asleep in his bed on Christmas eve, wakes up when he hears a thud on his roof. That thud is a burglar, dressed in a red jacket and with a red stocking as a cap. When Paddington opens up his attic window, he finds the burglar but mistakes him for Santa. Not before smacking him in the head with the window. The Christmas spirit ensues.

The questionable moment occurs towards the end of the video. After they’ve returned all of the presents, Paddington gives the burglar a present in the form of a sandwich, likely stuffed with marmalade. The burglar then hugs Paddington and says what sounds a lot like, “Fuck you, little bear.”

Now, he’s probably, no, definitely, saying “Thank you,” but that British accent — and the “F” sounding “Th”  — really muddles it up. It’s close enough to be genuinely confused — and also to wonder why nobody in the M&S advertising department didn’t insist on doing another audio take. But now we have it on the internet to remember forever.
