'WandaVision' Episode 7 Clip — Wanda Is a Hungover Mom

by Ryan Britt

We’ve all been there. It’s morning, the kids are standing at your bedside, begging for your to get up and do something, while all you want to do is pull the covers over your head and hide from the world. In the seventh episode of WandaVision (only three more total!) Wanda Maximoff is every parent who stayed up too late the previous night, and just wants to pretend like the rest of the world isn’t happening.

In a new clip just released by Disney+ and Marvel, Wanda is every parent who has had this kind of morning. With one twist: We know that Wanda doesn’t just have to endure the family life she’s in, she created it. Because we’re now in the early 2000s in terms of sitcom styles, Wanda is speaking directly to us in this clip, ala’ The Office or Modern Family. Does she feel bad about expanding “intentionally expanding the borders of the false world we created” in the previous episode? Probably?

But that’s the rub with WandaVision, right? Yes, as of this writing, there are zero parents who can control entire suburban environments with their mind powers, and yet, it does feel like boundaries of being a parent are often traps of our own making. On some level, outside of all the zany Marvel Cinematic Universe twists, this might be the only real message of WandaVision. Having a family sometimes doesn’t feel like a decision we made. It feels like something that happened to us.

Who among us has not dressed-up in a metaphorical Scarlet Witch costume, gotten a little too drunk and then didn’t want to deal with the kids the next day? Yeah, like Wanda, in quarantine, I feel like I’m peeling off my purple tights right now, too.

WandaVision airs three more episodes in Season 1 over the next three Fridays. Here’s when all those episodes drop on Disney+.
