For seven books and eight movies, Voldemort had been the name synonymous with evil in the Wizarding World created by JK Rowling. But that all changed with the Fantastic Beasts series, where we are finally getting to know Gellert Grindelwald, the dark wizard who was wreaking global havoc when Tom Riddle was just a boy torturing animals at his orphanage in the English Countryside.
And while we only got a glimpse of Grindelwald at the end of the first Fantastic Beasts film, Dumbledore’s former friend (and possible lover) takes center stage in the sequel, giving fans a chance to see this legendary wizard in action. So, now that we have seen both Voldemort and Grindelwald in action, which takes the crown as the ultimate dark wizard?
Sadly, the two had very little overlap, as Voldemort was only a child when Grindelwald first rose to power and by the time Voldemort was at his peak, Grindelwald was rotting away in Wizard jail. But while we never got the chance to see the two directly face-off, that doesn’t mean we can’t compare the two to try and determine who was truly the evilest wizard of all time.
