Like most three-year-old boys, Joel Jovine is a big fan of trucks. But unlike most, Joel got to witness the largest truck unboxing in the history of the world. And to the surprise of no one, the kid lost his damn mind. The one-of-a-kind present came courtesy of Volvo, who placed a 16-ton semi-truck inside a massive box to earn the first-ever Guinness World Record for the “World’s Largest Unboxing.” The entire stunt was a surprise for Joel, and the video of him going absolutely bananas has already racked up nearly half a million views on YouTube.
For those that aren’t familiar with the phenomenon of “unboxing,” it’s an online trend where people will film themselves opening up newly purchased products. People will usually examine the product’s features and give their initial approval or disapproval of the item. But most unboxings involve things like iPads and speakers, not trucks.
This unique stunt was partially inspired by a popular video where a child dressed as Spiderman unboxes and plays with a battery-powered Spiderman toy car. That video has received 219 million views and so the team at Volvo got to work to try to create their own viral magic. The biggest challenge was creating the supersized toy truck box, which measured 80 feet long and 14 feet wide and was based on real toy package designs. Joel clearly appreciated all the effort to make the unboxing realistic, as the second half of the video shows him happily exploring the coolest toy truck of all time.
