To celebrate The Last Jedi finally coming to theaters, a man named Matt Johnson created an incredible Star Wars themed Christmas lights display at his house that has to be seen to believe. Instead of focusing on the hope and joy of a galaxy far, far away, Johnson decided to design his light show around The Dark Side of the Force. While that may seem like a betrayal of the Christmas spirit, the entire thing turned out totally awesome. Who knew the Dark Side and Christmas went so well together?
The display begins with an auto-tuned Vader declaring, “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side.” Then, the EDM remix of “The Imperial March” kicks in, perfectly synced with the lights and other decorations Johnson included in his latest themed Christmas display. Johnson really goes all out with his showmanship, completely transforming the house into a giant tribute to Darth Vader and the Sith way of life. There are spotlights, giant lights shaped like the Imperial Crest, and even a 30-foot-tall LED Christmas tree that is topped with a seven-foot-tall Vader ominously wielding his lightsaber.
Johnson’s pairing of Star Wars and Christmas feels like a natural fit, despite the fact that the two have no tangible connection (other than the terrible Star Wars Holiday Special). Maybe it’s the fact that the Star Wars movies come out in December or because Star Wars toys continue to be must-have Christmas gifts for kids or simply because they both give us all an excuse to feel like kids again. Whatever the reason, Christmas and Star Wars have become strangely linked over the last few years and thanks to this video, we now know they also pair well with EDM music.
The video has already been viewed nearly 300,000 times since being uploaded and has received an overwhelmingly positive response from Christmas lovers and Star Wars fans alike. This is not the first time one of Johnson’s outlandish displays has received national attention. His “2015 Johnson Family Dubstep Christmas Light Show” currently has more than five million views and was even featured on ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight two years ago. We already can’t wait to see what insane idea he cooks up for 2018.
