Throw an Uber Puppy Party Tomorrow

Get ready to take a sick day with the kidsWednesday, May 10. It’s National Pet Week and Uber is giving you a chance to celebrate by offering puppy deliveries. The rideshare company, which has spent the better part of the last year rolling around in bad press, is offering on-demand puppy delivery service from 11 am – 3 pm, for only $30. What does that mean? Basically, that you can go into the app and arrange for a brief bit of furry fun.

Each “puppy delivery” will last for 15 minutes. That’s never going to feel like enough time to hang out with puppies, but the silver lining is that the fee will go to support the Anti-Cruelty Society. Somewhat dangerously, puppies will also be made available for adoption. It’s all part of a plan to find new homes for dogs while also making Uber, which is currently under investigation by the Justice Department for illegally deploying its Greyball software in cities where it is expressly forbidden, seem less evil.

If you’re not above engaging with this sort of quasi-charitable damage control, open the Uber app tomorrow during the puppy hours and click the “Request Puppies” button (seriously). Keep in mind that you’ll want to be ready to go as soon as the event kicks off. A lot of people will be requesting puppies. The best approach? Get together with some friends or teachers or coworkers and order a few different puppy deliveries. Worst case scenario: Lots of puppies.

That’s a hell of a lot better than surge pricing.
