Reason #2: Spring Break Specials Are Everywhere

Find spring break specials at in-village lodging, with easy access to the mountain. Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Steamboat Resort, Stratton Resort, Solitude Mountain Resort, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and Snowshoe Mountain are all known for their idyllic villages with multiple options for hotel rooms or family condos within walking distance of the lifts.

Reason #3: You can start a cannonball competition into Snowshoe’s mountainside Split Rock Pool or Blue Mountain’s Plunge! Aquatic Center.

Reason #4: Bumps, Groomers, and Specialty Clinics

With its proximity to Denver and its excellent lesson offerings, Winter Park is the perfect place for your family to learn the slopes together. The Ski & Ride School offers specialty clinics like the Bump Jamboree or Bob’s Mogul Camp, allowing your newly minted bump-crushers to cheer each other on through Mary Jane’s legendary mogul terrain. Beyond the bumps, there’s plenty of Winter Park groomers to learn on as well. Bundle up a five-pack for your group or use the lessons for yourself and get to cruising over the course of a week.

Reason #5: Pizza Tastes Better on the Mountain

Destinations on the Ikon Pass are always planning special events for kids. For starters, the Kids’ Vacation Center at Steamboat is the perfect place for your kids to play games and make new friends while you get some alone time on the slopes. Similarly, Sugarbush’s Pizza & Movie Night (March 23) give parents a chance to go out alone and leave the kids to revel in a slice of pizza and their favorite movies. Blue Mountain also hosts Friday Night Lights Rail Jams, an event for kids and teens to show off the skills they’ve honed during the day. Whatever destination you’re headed to, see what is in the works for your team.

Reason #6: You can hold family races down the Coca Cola Tubing Hill at Winter Park and Snowshoe. May we suggest that the winner gets to pick where you go for dinner?

Reason #7: There’s No Better Time for Family Ski School

Traveling with a family that skis at different speeds? Then the personalized attention at Deer Valley Ski School’s specialty programs is perfect for your team. Offering stance, balance, and alignment analysis — these skill-building sessions are all a part of Deer Valley’s Gold Standard of Instruction. Of course, there’s always that dedicated youth with a need for speed, so when it’s time to take it up a notch, Deer Valley’s three-day Steeps & Stashes program is the playground that pushes intermediate, advanced and expert skiers in off-trail terrain.

Reason #8: Spring Break Special Events

Special trips call for special events. WinterWonderGrass, hosted at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows from March 29 to 31, might be just the ticket for your unit of music-loving, dance-crazed youths. Pro tip: plan out a synchronized family dance move that you can embarrass your most self-conscious teen with.

Another great option for family fun takes place at Steamboat on April 13, when they pack carloads of fun into their annual Cardboard Classic. Start planning with your family now and then break out the diagrams at the mountain to create your cardboard craft with the provided supplies. Some creations are fast, some are slow, and some don’t even survive the trip — but the costumes and crafts are worth attending. Registration opens in early April and spots fill up fast. Children under 5 should stay safe and cheer from the sidelines; children ages 5 to 10 need at least one adult in their craft.

Reason #9: You can make history by taking a ride on the longest mountain coaster in North America, Steamboat’s Outlaw Coaster.

Reasons #10: There’s No Better Way to Snap the Perfect Family Pic

Family photo session, anyone? Blue Mountain Learning Center has created a specialty Friends and Family Lesson Experience — the perfect option for beginner skiers and snowboarders who simply want to stay together on the slopes while snapping a few family photos along the way.

Reason #11: You can prove to your kids that you’ve always been smooth while skating laps at the Woodview Mountaintop Skate Rink at Blue Mountain.

Reason #12: Mini. Snowmobiles.

Yes, the whole family can experience the peak of adventure together by renting mini snowmobiles at Squaw Valley.

Spring Break is all about the celebration of spending time with your family. Luckily, the Ikon Pass makes this easy to do. While unlimited terrain options and ski schools mean slopes for everyone in your crew, unique adventures and special spring break events set the stage for shared moments and infectious smiles. Yes, these are the memories that will be talked about for years to come. This is the spring break they’ll always remember. Now, where is your family headed?
