If some of the newer Star Wars movies have left you wondering about how everything matches up with the old ones, you’re not alone. The finale of Rogue One in 2016 was badass, sure, but if we take it literally, how come Darth Vader didn’t know more about what the Rebels were doing in A New Hope, you know, the movie that happens like five seconds after Rogue One ends? Luckily, thanks to a hilarious new fan video, you won’t have to wonder anymore. In this video, Darth Vader overexplains everything with hilarious results.
On May 24, the comedy group Auralnauts uploaded a new video called “Star Wars SC 3, 5, 16, 29, 38 Reimagined,” which refers to the idea that several scenes from A New Hope (scenes 3, 5, 16, 29, and 38) have been “improved” to include “new dialogue” from Darth Vader that gets super-literal about a ton of plot holes. This includes Vader making references to the fact that he’s pretty sure he saw a dude literally hand the Death Star Plans to the guy he’s strangling at the beginning of A New Hope.
But, the video doesn’t just make fun of newer movies like Rogue One. It lovingly mocks the internal plot holes of the classic 1977 movie, too. When one of Vader’s lackeys tells him about the missing escape pod, Vader is pissed and says “Did you scan for droids…droids are a very common method for storing digital information…always scan for droids!”
There’s even a great reference to Han Solo in The Force Awakens when Vader gets to use this comeback: “That’s not how the Force works!”
Next time someone you know is debating Star Wars plot holes, just show them this video. It should clear up nothing but make you feel better anyway.
Oh, and for those who think the Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader lightsaber duel is just two old dudes not looking cool enough..this video mocks that, too. Yeah, the fight is way longer here, and, as this recut proves, it’s also, totally ridiculous to think it ever should have been.
