Ryan Gosling’s Daughters Think He Works on the Moon

His spacesuit was really convincing.

Universal Pictures.

Actor Ryan Gosling visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday to promote his latest movie First Man. It follows Neil Armstrong as he tries to help NASA figure out how to get Americans on the moon before the Russians. Gosling plays Armstrong in the film, and Kimmel wondered whether Gosling’s two daughters had seen him in his “astronaut’s outfit.” Turns out, they had. In fact, Gosling revealed that his children might inadvertently believe that he’s actually an astronaut ⏤ and that he works on the moon.

Gosling said that he brought his daughters, who he raises with Eva Mendes, to set while they were filming some of the space shuttle launch sequences. “They came on this day where I was shooting a launch scene, so I was in the spacesuit and pretending to launch,” Gosling said to Kimmel, “I think they think I’m an astronaut now.”

Apparently, the costume was so convincing that his 4-year-old and 2-year-old believed that their father got a whole new profession. “My oldest said the other day — she pointed to the moon — she was like, ‘That’s where you work, right?'”Although Gosling did correct his daughter and made it clear that he wasn’t commuting to the moon on a regular basis, the late-night host gave Gosling some of his own parenting advice.

“Always lie to your children,” Kimmel said with a laugh. Kimmel has two adult children from his previous marriage and a 4-year-old and 1-year-old with Molly McNearney, so he has plenty of experience in the parenting department.
