You may own that “World’s Greatest Dad” mug, but Donald Glover is on track to become the coolest come 2018. The 33-year-old actor/rapper/father already has a fairly cool resume: Writing episodes for 30 Rock; starring in the cult hit Community; being the successful hip hop artist, Childish Gambino; and then his there’s his series Atlanta. But next year is looking to be a breakout one with 2 iconic roles.
Jon Favreau, director of Disney’s upcoming live-action film The Lion King (and Iron Man, but mostly you remember him from Swingers and PCU), tweeted Glover will be the voice Simba in the live action remake. You’re thinking he’s going to look like an extra in Cats, but judging on what Favreau was able to do in his previous live-action Disney film, The Jungle Book, the fake whiskers will probably be at a minimum. Plus, James Earl Jones will return as Mufasa, because the man has cornered the market on voicing famous film fathers.
Glover will also join Jones as being a part of the Star Wars cannon. Today the first cast photo of the new Star Wars Han Solo movie surfaced, with Glover filling the Billy Dee role as Lando [Freaking] Calrissian. This little indie flick will explore how the smuggler earned his infamous reputation — and possibly how he managed to do the Kessel run in 12 parsecs.
Sure he may be king of the jungle and Mayor of Cloud City next year — how is Donald at making the perfect grilled cheese?
