First Trailer For ‘The Mandalorian’ Proves It’s Basically a Boba Fett TV Show For Adults

Got some 'Game of Thrones' vibes here.

Do you miss Boba Fett? On Friday evening, Disney and Lucasfilm dropped the first trailer for The Mandalorian, the new Star Wars TV show set in between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens and it is 100 percent a show about criminals in space.

The first original TV series that will launch the new streaming platform, Disney+ will probably not be a show you’ll watch with the younger kids. The very first live-action Star Wars TV series — The Mandalorian — has hardcore Game of Thrones vibes all over it. It looks visually stunning, but this might be the edgiest and bleakest visit to a galaxy, far, far away yet. (You can watch the trailer above!)

Notably, the series feels a lot like the early trailers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, back in 2016. That movie had a bleak vibe, too. But unlike that movie, this series doesn’t seem like it’s trying to be about the good guys or the bad guys, but perhaps, a Star Wars movie more about the in-between guys. We don’t really hear any dialogue in the trailer for the titular “Mandalorian” (that refers to the Boba Fett-ish armor that person is wearing) but everything we see is all about old-school Star Wars scum and villainy. Did you spot the assassin droid IG-88? And just who was that frozen in carbonite?

For now, this trailer is concealing more than its revealing, including who is really under that helmet. (We know its Pedro Pascal, but the trailer doesn’t show him.) Will you watch it with the kids? Maybe when they’re old enough? But, until then, watching Star Wars late at night has never looked this slick.
