Korn’s 12-Year-Old Bassist Rocks Out With His Dad

Facebook: Ray Luzier Official

Tye Trujillo is a rock god in training. The 12-year-old son of Metallica bass player Robert Trujillo, Tye is on South American tour with the nu-metal group Korn. Naturally, dad is tagging along for some of this quasi-internship and also naturally, he couldn’t help but step on stage. During a show in Lima, Peru , father and son Trujillos did a bass duet during one of Korn’s oldest songs, “Blind”.

The resulting bass duel was metal as hell. The Trujillo head banged together and flaunt their non-musical genetic gift: beautiful flowing hair.

But it would be naive to think that this is the apex of Tye Trujillo’s career thus far. It isn’t. The 12-year-old prodigy has his own band, The Helmets, which consists of people closer to his age. And The Helmets are really good. If they went on tour with Korn one might expect them to be closing by the time the whole thing was done.

Robert seems to get that. He’s proud as hell.

“It’s a beautiful thing because he’s still a 12-year-old and he still acts wild and crazy, as a 12-year-old should, but when it comes to music, he’s very focused,” Trujillo told Brazilian TV network GloboPlay. “And with Korn, it’s funny, because I haven’t shown him anything at all for the Korn stuff. I’ve been too busy and I’ve been out of town a lot. He’s taking this opportunity very seriously.”
