This Interactive Map Shows The Real-Life Houses From 24 Iconic Horror Films

If you have young kids, the American Academy Of Pediatrics (and likely your spouse, as well) would prefer you don’t show them horror movies just yet. But if your kids are old enough to have developed a taste for the terrifying, the slasher buffs at Atlas Obscura have created an interactive map of 24 IRL houses used in some of the most famous horror flicks of all time.

America Horror Movie Houses Mapped

Atlas Obscura / Eric Grundhauser

From 1408 to The Shining, from California to Maine, each location on the map comes complete with descriptions of what they’re like today. That way, you don’t have to go all the way to Kingsland, Texas to find out that Leatherface’s house is now a restaurant (clever use for all that extra corn syrup). A majority of the locations are in Los Angeles because Hollywood, but there’s still plenty to fear all over the map, including a part of Manhattan you should avoid if your spouse is named Rosemary.

It’s important to note that some of these horror home are now private residences, but if you insist on that road trip, avoid trespassing with this list instead. You’ll learn you could send your kid to the Boy Scouts Of America’s Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco — aka Camp Blood from Friday The 13th. Bonus points if the kid’s named “Jason.”
