Giselle Bündchen Defends Private Post-Super Bowl Comments to Her Kids

"Tired of people twisting my words to create drama that doesn't exist!"

Gisele Bündchen, world-famous supermodel and wife of recent Super Bowl-losing quarterback Tom Brady, headed to Twitter to clarify controversial comments she made to her kids after they witnessed their dad fail to capture his sixth championship. As the Eagles were celebrating their first-ever Super Bowl title, Bündchen reportedly tried to console her five-year-old daughter Vivian by explaining it was simply Philadelphia’s turn to win.

“Just this time,” Bündchen said, according to USA Today. “Daddy won five times. They never won before. Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes.”

Some took issue with Bündchen implying her husband and the Patriots merely let the Eagles win instead of acknowledging they earned the title fair and square. But rather than let the rumors about her swirl, Bündchen decided to explain herself on Twitter, saying that the Eagles obviously won on their own merit. She also expressed frustration with what she characterized as people intentionally twisting her words to manufacture drama.

Regardless of how you feel about the Patriots and golden boy Tom Brady, it seems silly that Bündchen’s comments were criticized in the first place. Bundchen, by all accounts, was a class-act during the Super Bowl, congratulating every Eagles player she encountered after the game, and even going so far as to post a follow-up congrats to the whole team on Instagram the next day. Plus, she didn’t hold a press conference to subtly throw shade at the Philadelphia Eagles, she was having a private conversation with her young daughter and trying to console her after her dad’s Super Bowl loss. That’s got to be a tough conversation to have and like most parents, she was probably just saying anything to soothe her kid’s  broken heart.
