Disney is already dominating the 2019 box office but now the studio is hoping to take on Netflix in the world of streaming with Disney+, which will officially launch on November 12. But while you may be tempted to blindly throw more money at the company that owns approximately 90 percent of current blockbusters, you may want to see what will actually be available to stream before you sign up. With that in mind, here is what Star Wars, MCU, and other movies will be in Disney+’s library from day one.
Disney+’s big weakness is its lack of the MCU library, as only four movies will be available to stream on November 12: Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Iron Man 3, and Thor: Dark World. Considering that Dark World and Iron Man 3 are widely considered two of the weaker MCU entries, it’s an underwhelming offering but as time goes on, they’ll be able to offer more of the MCU canon.
Fortunately, Disney+ makes up for the shortage of MCU movies with Star Wars, Pixar, and its animated classics. The streaming service will have episodes 1-7 immediately available to stream, along with Rogue One. Pixar fans will be delighted with Disney+, as every movie except Toy Story 4, which came to theaters last month, will be in the streaming library.
(To be clear, it seems like every single Star Wars movie will be on Disney+ with the exception of The Rise of Skywalker, since it won’t even be out in theaters until December 20, 2019)
A healthy amount of Disney’s animated classics will be there as well, including Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmations, Fantasia, The Little Mermaid, Frozen, and Moana. In the live-action category, Mary Poppins, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl will all be streaming from day one.
Of course, Disney+ isn’t just a place to watch your old favorites, as it will also have several new movies and shows, such as a live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp and The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show.
