Everyone’s favorite science guy is strapping on his chemical resistant gloves and returning back to the TV this week with Netflix’s Bill Nye Saves the World. And if the show’s just-released theme song is any indication, it’s going to be fucking awesome. Composed and performed by Odd Future founder and noted Adventure Time-enthusiast Tyler, the Creator, the song is catchy as hell, nodding to the original but also making it clear that this is a Bill Nye for modern times.
Tyler took inspiration from the classic Bill Nye the Science Guy theme, saying, “Yeah the first one is really sick. I love the fast pacedness of it. You take out that snare, it could be a house song.” There are similarities between the two, including the legendary “Bill! Bill! Bill” chanting. But Tyler made this new theme song completely his own with some of his patented blend of chaos and childlike wonder while avoiding the campiness of the classic tune.

Bill Nye Saves the World will start streaming on April 2 and is a bit of a departure from the original. Yes, the show will center around science. But Bill is less of a zany scientist and more of an impassioned talk show host, who, along with a crew of correspondents and celebrity guests, will refute myths and shed light on important scientific issues. As the definition truth these days tends to stretch like silly putty, it’s a fine time for Nye’s facts and science. And, as Tyler’s bouncy tune makes it clear, it’ll still bring the fun.
