Best New Kids Movies On Netflix in December

It's cold outside, so watch family-friendly Netflix movies instead!

Netflix

The holiday season is officially upon us. Netflix is more than prepared even if you don’t feel that way at all about the looming festivities. For the holidays, the streaming behemoth has given viewers Christmas specials and new movies that the whole family can enjoy. There are some pretty great gifts in this list. There are some animated classics that you might have missed in theaters, because your kids were too young—or they didn’t exist yet. There’s some dark adventures, heartwarming holiday specials and caped crusaders fighting to save the universe. It really just depends what you or your kids are in the mood for. It’s cold outside, so just cite the weather as an excuse to avoid some of your boring obligations and have a family film night instead. Heat up some hot cocoa, break into the holiday cookies, maybe even light a fire in the fireplaces (if you have one) and get all cozy while streaming a movie.

Astro Boy

A brilliant scientist is still grieving the loss of his son, so he decides to make a robot in his son’s image. When Astro Boy doesn’t quite measure up to the deceased son, he decides to leave his home in search of his purpose in this animated movie. This film stars Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage and Kristen Bell.

Astro Boy is on Netflix starting December 1.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

A whacky inventor named Flint Lockwood (voiced by Bill Hader) finally has a chance of getting his name printed in the history books when he discovers something miraculous. He creates a machine that causes water to turn into food, so the clouds rain burgers, jello and, of course, meatballs.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will be on Netflix December 1.

Free Rein: The Twelve Neighs of Christmas

Super Monsters and the Wish Star

The Super Monsters have gifted your kids a super holiday special. In this special, Lobo’s Christmas wishes come true and his favorite cousin comes to visit. Meanwhile, Glorb gets his wish and gets to be everywhere at once.

Super Monsters and the Wish Star will be on Netflix on December 7.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle

Andy Serkis, who’s known for playing Gollum in Lord of the Rings and other CGI characters, has his directorial debut with Mowgli. His film is much darker than the Disney’s Jungle Book and is closer to Rudyard Kipling’s original story, so perhaps keep that in mind before allowing your children to watch this. Andy Serkis, Benedict Cumberbatch and Cate Blanchett lend their voices to the animals while Rohan Chand plays Mowgli.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle comes to Netflix on December 7.

Prince of Peoria: A Christmas Moose Miracle

The Prince of Peoria got its own Christmas silly special. After the bowling alley is snowed in, Teddy is worried that he’ll miss the Festival of Lights. Emil tells his to have faith and that the Christmas Moose will save him.

Prince of Peoria: A Christmas Moose Miracle will be on Netflix December 14.

Avengers: Infinity War

You can unwrap the presents under the tree while streaming Infinity War this year. All of your favorite Marvel superheroes band together to stop Thanos from getting all of the Infinity Stones. You and your family better enjoy this while you can, because it’s likely that Infinity War will come down from Netflix in a few months. Why? We’ve got the answer here

Avengers: Infinity War will be on Netflix on December 25.
