Watch the Original Voice of ‘Aladdin’ Interviewed By His Son

The new live-action 'Aladdin' gave the titular prince a new face, but do you remember his original voice in 1992?

In 1992, when Disney’s famous animated version of Aladdin hit theaters, Scott Weinger was a young actor at the start of his career. And, just like the voice of The Little Mermaid, Jodi Benson, Weinger’s life was forever changed by his voice work as Aladdin in the beloved animated classic. Now, 27 years later, Weinger is reflecting on his time as Aladdin with the help of his 10-year-old son, Mischa.

On Tuesday, Disney has released the new 2019 live-action Aladdin onto digital platforms for rental and purchase. This means you can buy the movie on Amazon, iTunes, and other digital video platforms. right now. And, as part of the special features on the digital release (and DVD and Blu-ray on September 10) there’s a short documentary called Aladdin on Aladdin; all about the original Aladdin, Scott Weinger, reflecting on his experiences as one of the most famous Disney heroes of all time.

The exclusive clip above is taken from Aladdin on Aladdin and features Scott talking to his son Mischa on what it was like to become a cartoon character all those years ago. Not every father can relate to having actually been Aladdin, but we can all see something of ourselves in the magic between Scott and Mischa. It’s also a nice reminder that some of the greatest family films have actual families behind-the-scenes.

The 2019 Aladdin is out on digital download today. The 1992 Aladdin will be streaming along with the entire Disney vault on November 12, as part of the new streaming service, Disney+.
