People Around the World Are Decorating Their Eggs to Look Like Ed Sheeran

With the success of his newest generic rock album, ÷ , and an upcoming role in Game of Thrones, Ed Sheeran has officially become the biggest non-royal UK ginger since Ron Weasley. And now Sheeran’s seemingly unstoppable popularity is even spreading to the holidays, as people all over England have decided to decorate their beloved Easter eggs to look like him. And you know what? A lot of them are pretty damn good. Some have even won egg decorating contests, beating out Eggward Scissorhands and Eggy Trump for the top prize. The Egg Sheeran phenomenon may have started in England, but it’s officially crossed the pond to North America. A radio station in Winnipeg had an Easter egg hunt where whoever found Sheeran’s lookalike won free tickets to his upcoming concert. At this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if Egg Sheeran popped up at Pokemon GO‘s Eggstravaganza because these terrible puns deserve each other.

And while the Egg Sheeran trend may have caught on this Easter, it’s been in the works for years. @EggSheeran has been on Twitter since January of 2012 and, while the account has only tweeted 11 times, it’s still impressive that someone anticipated the movement a whole five years before the trend caught fire. Even if they were only able to amass 16 followers. That’s the price of being ahead of your time.

This newest Easter tradition only further proves that Ed Sheeran has a special connection with chickens in all possible forms. Last year, farmers in the UK revealed that playing Sheeran’s music to their chickens had made them happier and more relaxed, which meant the chickens produced better quality eggs. So, in the unlikely event that humans decide they no longer enjoy Sheeran’s tunes, at least he has a great fallback career playing at farms to help the egg industry thrive.
