Five Kick-Ass Action Movies Currently Streaming on Amazon Prime

Because it's never too early to show your kid the classics.

The Running Man

It’s a known fact that dads love action movies and, honestly, what’s not to love? From start to finish, these totally awesome flicks are packed with intense brawls, heart-stopping explosions, and, of course, brilliant puns. But while every dad dreams of getting to introduce their kids into this wonderful world, in the post-Blockbuster era, it can be difficult to know where to find the classics. Fortunately, Fatherly is here to help make this search a whole lot easier for dads everywhere. Here are five badass action movies currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

Escape From New York (1981)

There’s no shortage of reasons Escape From New York is considered a bonafide classic of the action genre. A post-apocalyptic Manhattan that has been transformed into a maximum-security prison. A hero named Snake (Kurt Russell) who casually rocks an eye patch. The constant threat of explosives implanted in our hero’s arteries being set off. And despite being nearly 40 years old, the movie remains as thrilling as ever. Do yourself a favor and give it a rewatch this weekend.

Fist of Fury (1972)

Perhaps no one in history was better at kicking ass than Bruce Lee, and the martial arts legend really kicked off his cinematic career with Fist of Fury. In the film, Lee plays Chen Zen, a martial arts student who is forced to fight for justice after his teacher dies under mysterious circumstances. Fist of Fury is a fantastic journey packed with absolutely incredible action, including the nearly seven-minute ‘Dojo Fight’, which is rightly considered one of the greatest action sequences in movie history.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

We don’t need to explain why Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best action-adventure movies ever made. The endlessly memorable quotes. The opportunity to watch Nazis get punched over and over. The greatest opening sequence in all of movie history. But above all else, this film succeeds because of the titular Jones, as the heartthrob archaeologist immediately establishes himself as one of the baddest dudes to ever grace the silver screen.

The Running Man (1987)

Perhaps no actor is more synonymous with the action genre than Arnold Schwarzenegger, as the man made a career out of firing off hilarious one-liners while endlessly beating the shit out anyone who dares to stand in his way. And The Running Man is one of Arnold’s most fun action movies, as his performance as a cop who has to clear his name after he is wrongly imprisoned for murder is the dumb fun we all expect from the Governator.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

The beauty of this highly underrated Western remake lies in its simplicity. Dan Evans (Christian Bale) is a down-on-his-luck war veteran who is forced to accept the incredibly dangerous mission of transporting a captured outlaw named Ben Wade to Yuma so he could be brought to justice. From the moment they begin traveling, there is palpable tension, as the viewer knows that there is no way this trip will go as smoothly as Evans is hoping it will.
