Presumably, you’re already hugging your kid a fair bit – after all, it’s not really a bundle of joy if you never pick it up. But the next time you go in for some cuddling, keep in mind that you’re doing both of you a favor. Research suggests that how kids handle stress as they get older is directly linked to how frequently they’re touched growing up; another study of adults found that hugging reduces anxiety and improves self esteem. And if that weren’t enough, a whole different study found that regular hugging can ward off the flu. So, the question isn’t, “Should I hug my kid more often?”, it’s “Why are all these scientists studying hugs?”
