Does Your Kid Have One Of The Most Popular Baby Names Of 2016?

Picking the right baby name is all about finding the balance between originality and not naming your Pilot Inspektor. No judgment. It’s just that name has just been taken, along will 200 other boys and girls names released from Nameberry earlier this month. Every summer the parenting site releases a list of the most popular names for the first half of the year, based on data from nearly 40 million visitors. While this isn’t the same methodology that was used by the Social Security Administration when they released their list of the top baby names for 2015, it’ll give you an idea of what everyone else is doing. It could also free up the SSA for more important matters (like letting you to retire one day).

For girls, Olivia was the most popular name of 2016, followed by Amelia, Charlotte, Ava, and Isla. The name Sadie jumped 48 places since last year (likely the only thing their parents wanted to have in common with Duck Dynasty), while Elise, Astrid, Isabella, and Thea jumped 30 spots. The top 5 boys names did not change at all since 2015, so there’s going to be a lot Ezra, Asher, Atticus, Declan, and Olivers in that Pre-K classroom. Boys named John, Tobias, Daniel, Xavier, and Maxwell better look out as well, because their names jumped more than 40 places since last year.

It’s important to note that the list (available in full here) is of the most popular names among Nameberry users, as opposed to the most popular names in the U.S., so you may want to consult with both if originality is that important to you. Think you can do Better Than Ezra? Then use their name to make a playlist with that band instead by using the Word Is Born bot. They’ll be making a name for themselves in no time.
