In the midst of a very depressing news cycle, we all need some more mindless and simply enjoyable songs. If you’re in need of a pick-me-up look no further than “Zendaya is Meechee,” a song about the cast of Smallfoot that went viral on Twitter. You might have heard some rumblings about it on the Internet, but it is actually worthy of the hype.
Vine star and performer Gabriel Gundacker simply passes the movie posters and sings the names of the cast members and who they’re playing in Smallfoot, but somehow this short song spoke to viewers in a profound way. It’s catchy and soothing all at the same time. It might seem difficult to make art out of commercial movie posters and names, but Gundacker does it with style. If you don’t believe us, listen to it below.
No one expected such a song to be connected with an animated movie about Yetis and their discovery of a Smallfoot, which means human being in Yeti-speak, but it is perhaps more popular than some of the songs in the Smallfoot movie.
Gundacker’s video caught the interest of celebrities like Seth Meyers, Seth Rogen and Meechee herself. The Greatest Showman star Zendaya retweeted the video and complimented the singer on pronouncing her name right in his song.
After the video went viral, Gundacker made an extended version of the song on SoundCloud adding a pre-chorus verse. If you’re just preparing to see the Smallfoot movie with your children this weekend or just because you need a break from reality, the “Zendaya is Meechee” song has got you covered.
