At the age of 82, Burt Reynolds, the man who (along with Tom Selleck) made the 1970s and 1980s the era of the mustache, has died. On Thursday, several entertainment outlets and the Associated Press reported that Reynolds has died from cardiopulmonary arrest.
As an actor, Reynolds was known for his versatility, meaning, he did big movies that won a lot of awards (like Deliverance and Boogie Nights) but he also did super-popular crowd-pleasing movies, too. And we talk about the biggest crowd-pleasing movie of in Reynolds’s entire oeuvre, we have to talk about Smokey and the Bandit. And, because Reynolds has just passed away, there’s a good chance that fans want to watch his most famous movie. But can you watch Smokey and the Bandit right now?
Yes. Yes, you can!
Smokey and the Bandit is on Amazon Prime, meaning if you have a Prime account you can watch it for free right now.
For many dads, Burt Reynolds was the guy who our dads loved and admired in the ’70s and ’80s. It’s sad that he has passed on, but luckily, we have tons of great films starring Reynolds to enjoy for years and years to come.
Here’s hoping that at least a few dads out there are regrowing mustaches in honor of Reynolds right now.
Burt Reynolds’s last movie, the slightly meta-fictional film, The Last Movie Star, was released earlier this year and was met with universal praise. You can rent it on YouTube.
