After a decade of the most elaborate world-building in movie history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally getting the whole gang together for Infinity War. With the third Avengers movie just over a month away, Marvel has released the final trailer for the much-anticipated 19th MCU movie. To state the painfully obvious, this movie is going to feature a whole lot of superheroes.
While the first Infinity War trailer mainly focused on the plethora of heroes, the new trailer reveals more about the upcoming film’s plot and villain. After years of playing puppet master, Thanos, the super-super-superpowered evil alien, is finally coming to earth with the goal of collecting the six Infinity Stones and wiping out half of the universe. The only people who might have a fighting chance at stopping this borderline demigod? The Avengers, of course.
Along with the usual crew that includes Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the rest of the core group, the Avengers will still need all of the help they can get to save the earth. Fortunately, back-up is on the way and the trailer shows that the new and improved Avengers will include the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and Black Panther (along with his Wakanda crew).
With this many costumed vigilantes in action, it might seem like Marvel is finally biting off more than it can chew. Despite having more superheroes than you can count on your fingers and toes, the Infinity War trailer does not feel overstuffed.
In just over two minutes, the trailer manages to give almost every member of the supersized Avengers a moment in the spotlight while still explaining the overarching story and incredibly high stakes. There are even a few classic Marvel jokes squeezed in, with Star-Lord telling Iron Man that his plan is good except for the fact that it sucks and Peter Parker mocking Dr. Strange for using his “made-up name” during their introduction. Instead of trying to temper expectations, Marvel seems to be fully embracing the hype, and that makes this trailer a fucking blast to watch.
With Marvel’s stellar track record, including the massive success of Black Panther, and the pure star power of the cast, Infinity War, which hits theaters on April 27, is gearing up to be the most-anticipated superhero movie ever made. Let’s just hope it can match the hype, or we might have another Justice League on our hands.
