There are supportive parents and then there are Brianna Rubia’s parents. The 19-year-old woman of Filipino descent posted a video of her 17-year-old sister Sammi singing “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid along with a YouTube karaoke video. It’s a solid rendition for sure, but the video went viral because of her mom and dad’s reactions to the performance.
Brianna, who filmed the scene, smartly focuses on her parents’ faces, which flash expressions ranging from pure wonder to unadulterated glee to immense pride. Overcome with emotion, they both clearly struggle to remain quiet through the end of the song.
At one point, dad lets a “Woo!” escape before clutching his face, covering his eyes. Looking at the words come out of his daughter’s mouth seems, for him, about the same as staring directly at the sun. Mom is just as delighted but marginally more reserved. She “claps” silently, and both move up and down throughout the performance, alternately energized and overwhelmed by what’s happening.
When I said my parents were supportive, I wasn’t kidding ???????? pic.twitter.com/TZ0krYWTTG

The video is a great reminder that, though parenting can be a pretty difficult endeavor, parts of it, like showing pride in your kids as they pursue their passions, come naturally.
It’s probably the purest document of complete parenting joy we’ve seen in a long time, and unsurprisingly it’s attracted a huge audience. The original tweet now has more than 6.6 million views, 523,000 likes, and 2,200 comments, including at least one from a famous name.

Using Tagalog slang, the creator of Hamilton is calling Rubia’s parents cute and her sister an idol. Not bad for a 55-second home video.
