OG ‘Top Gun’ Is Getting a Slick Re-Release Next Month

Even the quarantine can't make us lose that loving feeling.

Danger zone! If you’re feeling nostalgic for Tom Cruise flying a jet fighter or recruiting all his buds to sing “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” in a bar, you’re in luck. For those of us who feel the need to cruise back into that pattern, which we’ve been told is full, things in May are looking a little better. At least in terms of the view from the couch. Top Gun is getting a brand-new, remastered home video release next month.

On May 13, Paramount will release a 4K Ultra HD remastered version of Top Gun, which will then hit physical Blu-ray on May 19. For the digital purchase, you’ll be able to get the movie on Amazon, iTunes, Movies Anymore, or any of those other outlets. It might be worth it to wait for the Blu-ray though, because isn’t it great to get things in the mail right now?

Here are the details from Paramount.

Feel the need for speed when the blockbuster hit TOP GUN arrives for the first time on 4K Ultra HD Digital in time for Top Gun Day, May 13, 2020, and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on May 19, 2020 from Paramount Home Entertainment.

The Digital* and disc releases will include a brand-new featurette that explores the film’s legacy and enduring popularity through new interviews with Tom Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and members of the cast of Top Gun: Maverick, including Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, and more. Fans can also enjoy a retrospective segment from 2016 looking back at 30 years of Top Gun. Additional previously released bonus content on the disc includes commentary by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Tony Scott, co-screenwriter Jack Epps, Jr. and naval experts; Danger Zone: The Making of Top Gun; a look inside the real Top Gun; original theatrical promotional material; music videos, and more.

The long-awaited sequel (I’ve been waiting since 4th grade?) to Top Gun — Top Gun: Maverick — was originally supposed to hit theaters this summer, but has now been pushed back to December 23, 2020.
