Since giving birth to her son this morning, Meghan Markle has been congratulated by people all around the world but perhaps the most notable well-wishes came from her own estranged father. Thomas Markle released a statement where he congratulated his daughter and her husband Prince Harry, while also expressing his pride about his grandson getting to be raised by the Royal Family.

“I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well,” Thomas Markle said in a statement released by The Sun. “I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor. God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen.”

The birth of the latest Royal Baby was announced this morning on the official Royal Sussex Instagram account. According to the post, the baby was born at 5:26 a.m. Monday morning, weighing seven pounds and three ounces. While the name has yet to be revealed, the Instagram post explained that “more details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”

Thomas’ relationship with his daughter is famously strained, as he reportedly frustrated Meghan and the Royal Family due to his antics leading up the Royal Wedding, including staging Paparazzi photos and leaking a letter from his daughter to the press where she asked him to stop talking to tabloids about her. It is believed that Thomas and his daughter are not currently on speaking terms, though perhaps the birth of her son and his grandson could convince them to put aside their differences and reconcile.
