There’s a new Stranger Things twist that involves the classic roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons and it’s really, really brilliant. This May, right before Stranger Things Season 3 drops, a new Stranger Things-themed Dungeons & Dragons set will hit retailers, and it’s amazingly anachronistic.
In both seasons of Stranger Things, the kids play D&D using the famous “red box” version of the fantasy roleplaying game. Thought Dungeons and Dragons had been around since 1974, the “basic set” that was sold in toy stores in 1981 is what let the phenomenon go mainstream. And now, in real life, there will be a new version of the red box Dungeons and Dragons starter set, but this one will feature the monster from Stranger Things: the Demogorgon!
Obviously, there’s no way the boys in Stranger Things could play this version of D&D simply because it would require the fabric of space and time to be destroyed. But, then again, considering the premise of Stranger Things, whose to say this version of D&D doesn’t exist in the Upside Down?
The new Stranger Things-themed D&D set will cost $24.99 and will include a booklet which explains how the special set was “created” by the beloved character, Mike Wheeler.
Meanwhile, Stranger Things Season 3 will hit Netflix on July 4, 2019. And, despite earlier confusion will probably not be the last season of the show.
