Country music star Brad Paisley and his wife actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley are about to change the lives of people in Nashville. Paisley, who is known for announced this week that his family would be partnering with Belmont University to launch a free grocery store called The Store. This updated version of the food pantry is meant to help those struggling to feed their families.
“This is a grocery store with dignity for people who have fallen on hard times,” Paisley told The Tennessean. “All of us are one unforeseen disaster away from rock bottom. It’s nice to think about a place where when that happens to someone, they can use it to get back on their feet.”
Paisley, who graduated Belmont University, was named president of The Store’s board of trustees. The Store will also work with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to stock its shelves with produce and nonperishable items. Paisley hopes that it’ll serve 3,000 people in its first year, and people will be referred to the store through government agencies and nonprofits. They also hope to add a toy aisle to bring a little extra joy around the holiday season.
“It was inspiring because these people have dignity,” Paisley said. “It’s not a scene from ‘Oliver Twist.’ These people are able to sit there and feel very, very normal in the eyes of their kids. I remember … thinking, ‘Why isn’t this everywhere?’ Essentially, we got this idea that it could be a very effective thing in Nashville.”
The country star and his wife area really giving back to their community.
