It’s kind of weird to think about the perpetually jacked Dwayne Johnson actively going out of his way to get buff(er) for any role. But, honestly, with a nickname like ‘The Rock,’ what else did you expect? In a recent Instagram post, the actor and former WWE god posted a shirtless picture of himself after completing his training for Hobbs and Shaw, the first feature-length Fast and Furious spinoff. As you can imagine, Johnson, a self-proclaimed fitness nut, was looking like he could crack a whole pack of walnuts between his pinky and palm.
“After 18 weeks of disciplined diet & intense training, here’s where I landed my carcass for shooting my FAST & FURIOUS spin-off HOBBS & SHAW,” Johnson wrote in the caption of his Instagram post.
Johnson went on to explain that when it comes to being in great shape, there is “Always room for improvements.” And, chances are he’ll need the conditioning to keep up with his co-star Jason Statham now that Hobbs and Shaw has started shooting.

Dialed in & hit the mark. 260lbs of attitude & classy cuss words. After 18 weeks of disciplined diet & intense training, here’s where I landed my carcass for shooting my FAST & FURIOUS spin-off HOBBS & SHAW. Always room for improvements, but not too bad for a scarred up surgically repaired Brahma Bull who’s injuries always tell the story. Huge THANKS to my strength and conditioning coach @daverienzi for his masterful strategies that’s constantly shifting daily based on how I’m looking/feeling to achieve our goals. THANKS to EVERYONE in my inner circle (including the NASA scientists ????) who support the big picture – my diet, training, health & wellness, balance, consistency and execution. Finally, THANKS TO ALL THE FANS. My people out there worldwide ???? who buy into our grind belief and my philosophy that payin’ our dues is owed on a daily basis. Thanks for rockin’ with me — let’s have some fun and take this HOBBS & SHAW franchise to the next level. #HardestWorkerInTheRoom #Hobbs #NightlyTequilaDrinker ????
The film sees Johnson and Statham reprising their respective roles as Diplomatic Security Service Agent Luke Hobbs and the mildly villainous anti-hero Deckard Shaw. After going blow for blow in Furious 7 and forming a begrudging partnership in The Fate of the Furious, the two will actually be teaming up to take on a new baddie played by none other than Idris Elba. Along with Elba, David Leitch (Deadpool 2) will be directing the spin-off, while actress Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) has been cast as an MI-5 agent who also happens to be Shaw’s sister. Hobbs and Shaw just started shooting last month and is slated to drop in July 2019.
