Disney just dropped the newest trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, and it’s a serious trip. The new footage from the studio’s feature film adaptation of the beloved book debuted last night during the American Music Awards and showcases some mind-boggling visuals, alien worlds, fantastical costumes, and Zach Galifanakis being Zach Galifanakis.
Based on the classic work by Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time tells the story of Meg, a young girl with a missing father. Together with her brother, best friend, and three mysterious inter-dimensional women, Meg must travel across space and time to rescue her father, a time-bending scientist who’s been captured by a sinister force.
Disney first premiered footage from the movie in July at its biennial D23 convention, but this trailer reveals a lot more of the film’s whimsical visual style, displaying an impressive Inception-meets–Doctor Who vibe. The footage also features a closer look at the film’s plot, along with its star-studded cast, which includes Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, and Zach Galifanakis.
The new adaptation is helmed by Ava DuVernay, who directed the Oscar-nominated film Selma, and, working with a budget of more than $100 million, she’s the first black woman to direct a live-action film with a budget of that size. Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time is set for release on March 9, 2018.
