‘The House With a Clock In Its Walls’ Is a Halloween Kids Movie We Can Sit Through

Jack Black is back. (Did he ever leave?)

Amblin Entertainment

Universal Films has just dropped the first trailer for their upcoming movie The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and it looks pretty amazingThe film is actually an adaption of the 1973 children’s novel of the same name and will star Jack Black and Cate Blanchett as two magic users, who along with a newly orphaned boy, have to stop an evil warlock from destroying the world. Slated for release on September 23rd, The House with a Clock in Its Walls looks just hokey enough to be family-friendly, but serious and complicated enough for adults to get a kick out of it too.

The film and book follow a boy named Lewis Barnavelt who moves in with his weird uncle Jonathan Barnavelt after being orphaned. But, as it turns out, Lewis’ uncle is a warlock and agrees to teach him how to use magic. The house that the two now live in was previously occupied by a couple who practiced black magic and built a clock that ticks from within the house’s walls until the world is brought into “magical alignment,” and the evil pair of wizards can escape and destroy the world.
